Kindly Acknowledge Receipt

Dearly Beloved,

Life itself is a misery and nobody can tell what can be of it. Those that
can tell what can be of it are those who cannot tell us because they are far
from us (dead). I want you to hear my story.

I am the above named person but now undergoing medical treatment for cancer
now. I am married to Dr. David Joo who worked with South Africa embassy in
Malaysia for nine years before he died in the year 2001. Well I will only
try to let you know who Dr. David Joo is by stating his philosophy of life..
Life is worth living only if lived to the service of mankind" and "You make
a living by what you earn, but you make life as by what you give? This will
give you an insight of the spirit behind what I believe and what I will live
for because he is my mentor.

To continue with my story, we were married for eleven years without a child.
He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his
death we have made something of and from life.Since his death I decided not
to re-marry or adopt a child, this is
basically my own decision to honor him for the love we shared and the life
we lived for. My late husband deposited the sum of £7.6M (Seven Million six
hundred thousand British pound sterling) with vaults holding company in
Europe before his death. Presently, this money is still with the firm.
Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next three months
due to cancer problem.

Though what disturbs me most is my stroke. Having known my condition I
decided to donate this fund to a church, better still a Christian or a good
Muslim individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to
instruct herein. First you must emblem and live with my husband’s
philosophy, as stated above. If you can't remember please I refer you to
read through from the introduction of this letter cause this the most
important aspect that you must uphold.

Secondly I want an organization or an individual that is God fearing who can
invest the money and continuously use the money to fund orphanages, widows,
the less privilege, the disabled and all those afflicted with strange
illness or diseases.

If these conditions are met I am not afraid of death for I know where I am
going to and my heart will rest in peace. I don't need any telephone
communication in this regard because of my health, for as soon as I receive
your reply I will refer you to the contact of the company in Europe and my
doctor who shall arrange you the letter of claim from the Malaysia High
Court of Justice. This will be done if I see from your response that you
satisfy the above conditions stated.

As I have stated my Doctor will issue you a letter of authority that will
empowers you as the original beneficiary of these funds (consignment). I
choose this means to locate you because I am sure I will be lead by a good
Spirit to the kind of person that will be honest. Delay in your reply will
not be of benefit to me due to my health condition and this will propel me
to search for someone else.

In the light of the above, your positive responses would be appreciated
through my personal email: mrsmaryjoo@j-mail.info Please assure me that you
will act accordingly as I stated herein.

Hope to hear from you.

In His Arms.

Mrs. Mary Joo

Offer from St. Francis

Everyone - As mentioned earlier, when I met with St. Francis CEO Mike Schraeder the other day. (Some of you have seen those emails; others haven't. I'm trying to expand the list on this one.) During that brief "get-to-know-you" meeting, I mentioned our neighborhood's priorities of maintaining existing housing and, eventually, developing more (which is to say "any") public park space and greenspace. Along those lines, I noted there has been some interest (expressed in private conversations) about maybe establishing a "community garden" area that could be shared and used by neighborhood residents.

In response to that, Kim Gronniger (the hospital's community relations chief) called back later and mentioned something of possible interest. It's a good news/bad news type of thing.

The bad news is that St. Francis owns a house at 611 Jewell Ave., just across from the clinic at 6th & Jewell, and they plan to tear it down soon. She says the house has "some issues," but didn't elaborate. She then asked if we might be interested in that property for use as a community garden.

At this point, I don't know what they are "offering," per se. Would they donate it to the neighborhood? Sell it to us? Retain ownership and let us use it? I have no idea.

Obviously this raises a number of concerns, but also a potential opportunity:

1. The house is clearly outside the "growth zone" - by more than a block! Furthermore, given the hospital's previously-announced plans to vacate the area anyway, it's doubtful that this has anything to do with "growth" anyway. And given their willingness to let us have use of the land, I suspect they're just razing the structure to rid themselves of a liability and prepare it for sale/disposal.

2. I walked around the house just to see what we were looking at. Yes indeed, the house does have "issues," but I can't tell from a cursory outside view whether those issues are truly fatal flaws, or merely "inconveniences." Maybe it could be rehabbed and returned to use as a single-family dwelling. Maybe not. I don't even know if they've even considered that possibility.

I told Kim I would have to consult with the others and get back with her. But I got the impression that they want to decide something soon.

The issue of demolition does not seem to even be a question with them. It was pretty clear they intend to demolish it, and fairly soon. The only question in their mind (at this point anyway) is whether we have any interest in using the lot that it sits on for some other purpose.

What are your thoughts?

- peter

Re: May 3 meeting ... TONIGHT

Hi All, I am unable to come to tonight's meeting because of a schedule
conflict, but would the group want to discuss the Grace Cathedral
Parking Lot Issue. The have formally asked for permission to build the
lot, and I believe it will be discussed at the Landmarks Commission
meeting soon and discussed at the State Historic Preservation Office.
It will likely go to the city commission. I believe the city Planning
Dept. is recommending against approval of Grace's plan, believing that
there are prudent and feasible alternatives to their plan. The
planning dept. is suggesting angled, cut in parking along Polk as an
alternative to taking a significant portion of the grounds and trees of
Bethany Place. For the Historic Old Town Neighborhood(which has no
park) to loose a significant amount of greenspace and to degrade the
environs of both Bethany Place and Topeka High School would be a shame,
especially when there are alternatives. The Topeka High Historical
Society will be d
iscussing this at their next meeting. Thanks for listening. Sorry I
cannot come to broach the issue. Doug

May 3 meeting ... TONIGHT

Everyone - First, please accept my sincerest apologies for failing to get this agenda together earlier. My work schedule has been hectic beyond belief. That's not an excuse ... just a reason.

Several of you have called and/or emailed in recent days/weeks about things you wanted to discuss. I've tried to keep track of as many items as I could. But just to be safe, I've included an open-ended item on the agenda for announcements, comments, suggestions, proposals ... whatever people would like to bring up that they want the NIA to know about.

Now that the legislative session is over, life can return to normal and I promise I'll be more organized next month.

Hope to see everyone tonight!
