Historic Old Town NIA

Historic Old Town Neighborhood Improvement Association is a group of neighborhood volunteers in Topeka, Kansas. We meet monthly and work toward a better place to live, from arguing our case at city hall to cleaning out choked-up gutters. Our neighborhood is bounded by Topeka Blvd., Summit Ave., 6th Ave., and 10th Ave. Our official membership is anyone one who lives or owns property in this area, but we welcome any and all!

Help Elderly/Disabled in Severe Weather

Dear Historic Old Towners - The National Weather Service is calling for a major ice storm in our area over the next 24 hours. It's expected that many people will lose their power if the storm is as bad as they're saying.

This can be especially dangerous for many elderly and disabled people who could lose their heat and may not have any way to contact someone for help. So, during this time, let's all try to remember to check on our neighbors and make sure everybody's okay. If you know of someone who is without power or heat, help move them to a warm place and help them contact the utility companies to get their services back on.

Meanwhile, pay attention to local news and make note of any emergency phone numbers and other contact information they may give out. Other services, like emergency shelter, may also be available. I'll try to pass on further information as it becomes available.
